Hang-glider

hang-glider

The sport of the hang-glider is the simplest form and exciting to also fly and flying equipment lighter than it exists: a complete flight equipment goes up to around the 20 kg, and it is taken off and it landed with the feet. A glider is used airship, semi-rigid and very light that is handled easily. This glider is simple: the air enters by the front part and inflates the interior of the two fabrics, superior and inferior. The fabric of the glider acts just as the wing of an airplane, pushing upwards and allowing to maintain the flight.

The hang-glider goes united by means of fine cords of highly resistant material to a harness in which the pilot goes seated having a control in each hand that, when driving the back part of each semi-wing, allows him to vary the flight path.

Due to the high benefits of the present hang-gliders no longer pronounce slopes are needed to take off, is enough with a slope faced the wind that must have an intensity enters 10 25 k/h minimal and a maximum of 50 kilometers/hour. The easy handling and the accessibility to the zone of flight cause that he is one of the more accessible and popular aerial sports.

Always aprendera to later fly in a good school, improving the own knowledge and the ability in the air, in addition to using the most suitable equipment to each person.

Components Hang-glider:

Bell or guards, suspentaje, bands, harness or chair of pilotage; in addition, it is necessary parachute of emergenecia, helmet, transmitter, resistant footwear and variometer

The hang-glider was born at the end of years 70 as a derivation of the use of parachute to descend from mountains with pending forts, of there its name ‘hang-glider’. The first parapentistas were in their majority climbing that looked for a way simple to lower of summits once they had reached them, but its evolution towards true gliders able to enlist to the ascending thermal currents, to raise and to stay in the air during hours turned to the hang-glider into a sport into recreational and competitive itself, that today practice thousands of people anywhere in the world and who count on circuits of competition of high level for their two disciplines, the distance flight or ‘cross-country’ and the acrobatics.

Two-seater, is a designed hang-glider to take the weight of two people, the pilot and the passenger, without the need that the passenger has no previous knowledge of this form of flight. The takeoff is realised as in a normal hang-glider and of him the pilot is in charge, the passenger only must follow some simple instructions Flights of baptism, if you have never flown is not necessary that you have made the course of hang-glider: it proves the incomparable sensation to fly next to an expert pilot in a flight two-seater
In a flight two-seater the passenger can take, if he wishes it, a camera to fix some of the wonderful images that are had in front of bird.

It is important to realise this type of flight with a pilot who has degree and license to fly in two-seater. In Spain the Aeronautical Federation demands to these professionals the license of pilot two-seater so that they tell on the associate insurance that it then covers to pilot and passenger in case of a bad landing or a major accident, although the flight in two-seater is of safest, is not exempt of the risks of any aerial activity

It practices

In order to be able to practice the sport of the Hang-glider it is necessary to be able the title of advanced student. In Spain it is necessary to pass an initiation course and improvement in a school recognized by the Aerial Federation of each autonomous region and has passed a teórico_practico examination, in addition to have realised 50 flights of height at least.

With this title, the Advanced Student will be able to fly in recognized zones, although he will not participate in any competition nor he will use hang-gliders of high performance. In case the winch as system of takeoff in its zone of flight is used, the Advanced Student will have to secure a special qualification that he enables to him for his use.

During this phase, numerous schools use a simulator, that consists of hanging of the ceiling all the shroud lines. In this simulator, the student will practice the technique of the takeoff, the communication by radio or the launching of the parachute, having obtained that he gains confidence in itself and he automates the movements.

Once passed a year and after realising a minimum of 50 flights in five different zones, properly written down in Libro de Vuelos and certified by a pilot, the student can choose to the title of Pilot of Hang-glider. This he enables to him to fly in recognized zones and not to participate in regional competitions. If, in addition, the pilot is between the 20 first in some of these competitions, he can choose to the title of Pilot of Hang-glider of Competition, opening itself the door to the international.

In the Spanish legislation, to secure the title of Pilot of Paramotor it is necessary to have realised the corresponding course of Paramotor in a school recognized by the Aerial Federation, in addition to pass necessary theoretical-practical.

Competition

Like in other aerial sports, in the Hang-glider competitions of spot landing exist, where the participants must touch with the foot more close possible of the morning call. If it does with any other part of his body, they will receive the maximum penalty automatically. If the competing headress with both feet simultaneously and is not possible to determine the exact point of landing, the judges will always assume the major of the registered distances.

With the purpose of to measure the distance to the center of the morning call, an electronics of 15 centimeters of radio is introduced. To his around, usually they are placed circles of 0.5/2.5, 5 and 10 meters of radio as much to appreciate better the morning call from the air as measuring those less precise landings.

The competition is developed throughout several sleeves or attempts, being the final score the sum of all the landings realised by each sportsman. Only when the competition consists of five or more sleeves, the worse obtained score can be eliminated to realise the final calculation. In anyone of the sleeves, the judges can ask that the landing is repeated if, for example, the fort wind has been able to influence in a participant, if it has not reached an agreement on the landing point or if there has been some type of external distraction that has been able to affect to the results.

In the spot landings also it is possible to be competed by equipment. In this case, the accumulated points by the best ones of each equipment will be entered normally, leaving themselves to the criterion of each organization how many member of each equipment they will be entered. For example, in equipment of five members, usually they only enter the three best ones. To greater number of drawers, better aerodynamics and more possibilities of winning.

Homologations

The counterpart DHV the hang-gliders in the levels:

1. - School - They are the wings that are used in the schools to learn bases them basic of the flight. Its yield is not very high, but its level of security yes that is it.
1-2. - Initiation - intermediate. For pilots novate to them and expert who fly some 50 hours. to the year. They are a good commitment between security and yield, because of the same form that them can fly a pilot just left school thus to progress, they also fly them experience pilots who want to realise organization flights expressing all their potential and maintaining a high degree of security.
2. - Intermediate - They require a demanding pilotage already and are directed to pilots who fly a minimum of 100 hours. to the year. Its yield is high, but also the level is high that requires the pilot to be able to fly them within some safe margins.
2-3, - Intermediate-outposts - Pilotage expert and directed to pilots with some 200 hours. of flight to the year.
Competition - As its name indicates, directed exclusively to pilots of competition with a great number of hours. of flight annual and an credited pilotage. Its yield is superior to the others, but the pilot must be conscious that their reactions, before hard flight conditionses, will be very violent and will require of a right intervention to return to a normal flight.

As choosing our Hang-glider

It is very important to fly surely, not to mistake to us at the time of buying a candle. For it we must consider a series of criteria:

1. At the time of choosing our hang-glider it has to do much our level of pilotage. 1. - School. 1-2. - Initiation - intermediate. 2-3, - Intermediate-outposts. Competition.
2. To consider the number of hours that we will fly to the year. If it does not exceed 100 hours. to choose an Initiation, Initiation - intermediate, at the most, they are the favourites by the majority of the pilots.
3. To choose among the most modern models. This form we made sure that the candle will incorporate the technology and more recent design.
4. To have read the results of the test and the valuation that make the specialized magazines and publications.
5. To successfully obtain information and points of view among the pilots who fly them and, to power to be, with more experience than we.
6. To choose the suitable size.
7. To choose the color. Normally the clearest colors are more resistant to the solar radiations.

A modality of aerobatics also exists, as much alone as by equipment. Also, diverse bands or recognitions exist that the Aeronautical Federation provides the International, FAI, in the distance flights, as it shows the attached table.

EAGLE CATEGORY MINIMUM RANGE

MINIMUM DURATION

GAINED ALTITUDE
Banda Delta de Bronce 15 km. 1 hours 500 meters
Banda Delta de Plata 30 km. 3 hours 1,000 meters
Banda Delta de Oro 75 km. 5 hours 2,000 meters
Diamonds 125 km.   3,000 meters

In addition to the tests of navigation or spot landing, the economy or manageability exists eg: specific of the Paramotor. In the economy competitions, all the participants take off with the same amount of fuel in their deposits, winning that one that remains more airborne time. Before the test, the judges bleed the gasoline of each motor and they leave it working until she stops herself. Next, they add two liters of fuel and a maximum time for the takeoff settles down. When the competitor determines that the optimal conditions of thermal take place within that window of time, it will take off. The motor is used during the first minutes to gain altitude and search thermal. Once found, usually one stops the motor and one takes advantage to gain altitude free of charge. The altitude relight not always is guaranteed and always supposes one of the challenges to surpass by the pilots. Sometimes, the competition can last up to two hours, which supposes a spectacular fuel consumption of a liter to the hour.

Another variant of the tests of economy where all the pilots give returns to a circuit with beacons and level with the ground, in search of the maximum speed exists. In this case, the efficiency of the wing and the optimization realised with the power plant is moderate essentially: motor and helix.

In the manageability or slalom tests the domain of the Paramotor on the part of the competitors looks for. For it, a circuit formed by tubes settles, normally of PVC, two meters of height that the pilot must touch or demolish in the smaller possible time and a certain order. This test forces to fly to low level and high speed, where height in a turn cannot be lost since it is time that is lost. Also, any gust of wind can cause one climbed that makes again waste time to the competitor to return to both meters of height necessary to demolish the tube. For this reason, this type of competitions is very spectacular, since the near presence of the ground forces to realise fast and precise maneuvers. The competitor wins who obtains more points, being sold a total of 500 points to correctly complete the circuit and other 500 to do it within the anticipated maximum time.

Another variant where the pilot must avoid, without getting also exists to touch, all the beacons that are put in the circuit. As it is possible to be appreciated, so many types of competitions exist as limit has the imagination.
